SLD Center Services
Learning Assessment Evaluation
An SLD Center evaluation is recommended for new students. The purpose of assesment and testing is to determine each student's individual learning style and needs. This process consists of three steps: SLD
  • Initial conference:
Involves the parent and the Center's Education Services Director. The purpose of the conference is to share background information and determine if our services would be appropriate. The conference takes about 1 hour and there is no charge.
  • Testing:
Testing include standardized tests for reading writing and spelling. Also included are tests that help determine if there are characteristics related to dyslexia; what types of errors are made, how does the student approach each task, what is the student's learning style and how auditory, visual and kinesthetic senses are utilized. This is not diagnostic testing since no I.Q. test is administered. If a diagnosis is required, the client would be referred to a psychologist or psychiatrist for a full battery of tests. The academic assessment is $290 and includes a follow-up conference, a written evaluation and re-testing. Testing is required for tutoring.
  • Evaluation Conference:
This is a follow-up conference to go over results of testing and to discuss appropriate services. This conference is included in the academic assessment fees.

Tutoring
We provide individualized, one-to-one tutoring for people of all ages. Tutoring fees are based on a sliding scale according to income and family size. Charges can be paid in full or a payment schedule can be arranged. Students are scheduled two to three times per week for 45 to 60 minute sessions. Services are provided at the student's school whenever possible. Parents will receive oral communication on a monthly basis and a written evaluation every 50 lessons. Bi-monthly "Parent Connection" newsletters are also sent with Center information and related topical articles.

Professional Development

SLD Center's professional development courses include an overview of the latest research studies pertaining to language instruction, and explanation of structured language teaching, hands-on demonstrations and modeling of instructional techniques, strategies for implementation in the classroom, and interactive lesson plan development.
